Going the Distance

I bought my cyclocomputer in mid May this year. And from that time till now, I've finally reached the 1,000km mark. Woohoo!
Think of all the kilometres on beautiful singletrack, the picteresque scenery from Ubin and Tamp, the busy roads and the many idiots on sidewalks I so long to just run over and 2 flat tyres I've had at the most inconvinient times.
Ah, so many memories forged with my cycling kakis in just 1,000km, many good and some painful ones.
And actually ah, I've cycled much more than 1000km on my current bike. The lapse from End Apr to mid May when I bought the cyclocomputer should've added at least 500km to my mileage. Haha.
Not bad ah, considering I only touch my bike twice a week. Anyways, I've decided to buy my Stumpjumper only after I analyse whether I have the time in uni to use it properly. But in all probability, I will end up buying one.
That is, if I survive long enough. I was on the way back on my bike and yet again, I almost got knocked down by a car, at the bottom of the kickass hill from the guardhouse to my block. This time, an Audi had the honour of almost whacking me. I swear man, I know its my fault I'm speeding down the hill when even cars slow down to avoid the 3 humps down the hill, BUT, I'm not a car. And just cos the lane is free doesn't mean you can veer into MY lane.
Bloody P-plate drivers.
LOL. I FINALLY drove today. Took my sister's Mitsubishi Colt for a spin. I've been damned pissed off with my mum cos she's been making excuses for these past 2 weeks saying she has no time to accompany me on the Cefiro for my maiden drive. My other sister with her MPV also offered, and ended up making excuses. In the end, it was the other sister, the one who never offered who actually stepped up to the plate.
And my sister is damn cool la. "Oi. Faster la." were the few words she said to me on my drive from my house to IKEA. I'm like already going 80km/h on the Pasir Ris main road.
So going 100km/h on the main road is allowed in her car?!? Woohoo. Damn cool la.
I was nervous at first cos I thought she would've been a stiff for safety.
Best virgin drive ever. 100kmh on road and 150kmh on the PIE. Lol. And the Colt's steering is so light, it felt like my XBOX steering.
How can biking on the road be fun when one can drive on the road? Stupid roadies.
Ok la, the rain's stopped. I want to see whether I can go do a round at Tamp... Haven't been biking as much because there's my routine of waking up Sat morning to bike has been put on hold for a short while... Somehow, the weekend seems shorter by waking up later.. Weird, cos I sleep later which means I'm awake the same no. of hours.. One of the mysteries of life...

Like a Smelly Jackfruit Falling

I'm definitely going to get myself one of these... A Specialized Stumpjumper. OOOOOO. Been saving up. I'm proud to say I've accumulated a whopping $6.80 in my Stumpjumper Fund. Only $5,500++ to go. Hoho.

I'm now a bonafide mat. Last weekend alone, I nearly got into 4 road accidents while I was on my bike. 2 at traffic junctions whilst crossing the road, which were my fault, and 2 more while I was cornering at the petrol station near my house.

My rear tyre was almost flat, for some unkonwn reason, and I didn't realise it, so as I was speeding down the hill, and leaning into the turn, my rear tyre slipped out under me, and I almost fell, but I managed to reccover. And being a future unsafe motorbike rider, I tried weaving in between 2 adjacent cars between petrol pumps, and my rear tyre slipped again when I tried going around the car. Thank god the cars stopped.

Then earlier that day, something stupid happened to me. After a round at the MTB park, Aud needed to go home. So we got Pocari from Cheers. As we were parting ways, cos I wanted to do a few more rounds at Tamp, I leaned into the turn as I usually do, but this time, my pedal struck the ground as I was turning and I fell.

WAH! So embarassing. I fell to the side, my knee was slightly grazed, and I hit the side of my head on the ground. My first fall in close to 3 months. Hoho. What a humbling fall. I guess I'm not ready to go buy my Kawasaki... Haha.

So many near accidents, and guess what? I got my driving license. Haha. No points deducted for failure to check safety, and the next day, 2 cars almost knock me down. Lol. I guess there'll be no motorbike license for me...

And despite all the luck I've been having lately, I got to return something back to fate. I got to do IPPT. Yes, I was exempted from IPPT due to my knee injury, but now, somehow, I got called. And my beloved officer has taken the liberty to train me personally. He said he might as well do so, as he's training for some marathon. Wah leow eh. After his PT session on Monday, my whole upper body hurts like hell.. Argh.

On a sidenote, I think these training sessions will be a blessing in disguise. I'll be fitter and closer to acheiving my goal of completing 100km of trail continuously by next Feb.

Oh, and to you skeptics out there, I'm fitter than I look. Lol. At least this applies to that guy who thought he could easily lap me during the run, but instead found it hard to even catch up. And puking after the run because of your 'headache' didn't add much street cred to you. lol.

You owe me an Iced tea, bub.
