こんにちは!! Back from the land of the rising miniskirt

I'm back. So tiring. Have a bad cough. I'm hot, so I guess the cold was antagonistic with my sexy body. Heh.

But I had loads of fun. I truly experienced Japanese culture, albeit it was just a miniscule fraction of what Japan truly is.

Oh, and I met Audrey!!! 5600+ km from home and even that was no hindrance for me to meet up with an NTU cheerleader dressed up in pink in Disneyland. Major coincincidence. Tokyo is huge, Disneyland is huge, and I bumped into her. Oh, and I was so shocked I forgot to take a photo of this amazing happenstance. Stupid. And yes, I did comment this in my cbox, but it disappeared.

Anyways, what did i do there, you may ask?

Day 1

Landed in Tokyo. Spent some time at a Narita hotel, can't remember the name. I thought it was a crummy hotel, cos the room was super small. Little did I know, hotel rooms would get smaller as their locations got better.

Went shopping at a mall, ate Japanese food, which btw, I don't like. Half of the food I ordered tasted absurdly fishy, and I chose a dish that was fully cooked. But the tempura and the roasted horse mackerel/tuna/I don't speak Japanese fish was superb.

I never tasted saefood so fresh, succulent and juicy before. And I have cut and gutted prawns and fried them alive just to get the freshest prawns and yet their prawns tasted fresher. Mmmm.

Day 2

Went to Mt Fuji. It was a 3hr coach ride. I was disappointed as the road was closed as Mt Fuji is dangerous during winter, so we were only allowed to stop at two-fifths of the mountain. It was boring and lousy, as the pics sucked. We were too low for scenery. The cold was very bad. 3'C is very cold indeed. But no snow. So sad. I'm about to be 20, and I have never touched snow. If only we could have gone higher.

Checked into a hotel near Mt Fuji. Was asked to try the hot springs. Shy la, but in the end i braved it, and there was no one there. Haha. Why was I shy? Cos you have to go nude into the spring. Being naked in 5'C cold and then entering into a 50'C hot spring was one of the most unique expereinces ever. I was freezing, but to put my feet into hot water was insane. But I went in anyway. And I came out with skin as smooth as that woman from the Last Samurai. (But I'm still hotter than Tom Cruise).

The spring is indeed a cool Japanese tradition. You sit there naked in the cold outdoors, but you're warm, protected in the spring. Not to mention that Japanese culture dictates that if the women's spring is full, women can come over to the men's hot spring and vice-versa.

Unfortunately, the hotel wasn't full that day. Damn.

Day 3

You know how I was disappointed that i didn't get to see Mt Fuji? Well, the sutpid CD mat in me didn't have common sense. You can't see the mountain if you're on it. But you can see it if you're looking at it from a distance.

I woke up in the hotel room with a brilliant view of Mt Fuji. Magnificent. It was picture perfect. Just like in all the tv shows. Beautiful. I don't see why the tree huggers want to save the environment, but now I do. Nature is so beautiful. Its just that singapore has no nature.

Went back to Tokyo. Did some shopping in Harajuku, Tokyo's equivalent of Paragon. Why not Orchard Rd? Cos its like paragon. All branded shops. Burberry's, Chanel, Mont blanc, etc.

The only store which I could afford stuff from was Zara, which was entirely disappointing, cos all the stuff there I could find in singapore.

After that we went to Shinjuku. Now, that's a better place. It has shops more suited to the masses. Went around, looked at all the weird Japanese stuff, but still couldn't find anything worth buying. So I headed into the back lanes, looking for more bargains. And here, the land of the weird and the schoolgirls and the miniskirts in the middle of winter thrived. Adult video and toy shops were everywhere, right next to convienience stores, eateries and the like. It was crowded, like a normal singapore street, but it had sex shops in between. Moi, being innocent, but curious went into one of the shops. Wah, porn videos, toys, contraceptives, everywhere. I got out of the shop after taking a picture, (pics later) and was stopped by a man.

I was scared. Shit. Did he see me take a picture in the shop?

He muttered something in Japanese. I gave him a blur look. Then he proceeded to say, "Do you want sex? Do you want sex? Very good."

WTF?!?

I enter a porn shop out of innocent curiosity and now I was stopped and being touted with sex by a pimp, who could possibly be just a robber, or worse, a gay man attracted to me?

I said, "No. No yen. No yen. Arigato." And I walked quickly out to the main streets of Shinjuku, carefully not veering off too far into the side streets.

Crazy. Offering me sex in the middle of a crowded street.

I later met up with my tour group shortly after.

Haha. All in all, it was truly a new unique experience.

Vishnu said I should have asked the guy how much he was offering. Haha. Maybe I should have.

Haha. Pervert.

Day 4
DISNEYLAND! Not paticularly fun, cos I like scary rides, and disney is filled with kiddy rides. But the fun and clean family atmosphere was simply breathtaking. The disney experience simply envelopes you from the gate to the exit at the end of the day.

I'm a changed man. I like disney now.

Oh ya. I met Audrey there also. Dressed in a hot pink sweater. Pink looks nice on her.

Lots of pictures, but I didn't buy much souveneirs as I felt they were astronomically overpriced. But I bought a buzz lightyear pen cos it had the cute green martians on it, and a crystal drinking glass, with my name engraved on it. It has a Winnie the Pooh stem. Classy and cute. And the engraving serves my narcissism well.

Day 5

Checkout day. Dint do much, did some shopping at a branded outlet mall. Was tempted to buy the s$60 Levis jeans, but I have too many already.

But i did buy a watch. A Fossil watch, with kinetic movements, only available in Japan. Cool. But I regret buying it, cos now I have to replace my old swatch watch. Its been with me for 4 years. Through O levels, A levels, Biz Club, NCC, up till the day I ursurped my mentor in CD by taking over his place, and outranking him.

I guess I can forge new memories with my new watch. Graduate with 1st class honours in NTU (haha, fat hope), 1st job, 1st million (after which I'll get my Tag Heuer), etc.

Flew back on North West airlines. Worst airline ever. They were having a strike. The seating was all over the place, AND during the flight the pilot was serving coffee in economy class!! Not the captain of course, but the other 2 low ranking junior pilots.

Haha. This post is getting too long, and I simply can't describe the innumerable things I've experienced these past 5 days, so I'll let pictures paint the words aye.

There's a lot of culture in Japan. They are a mordern people, but they don't lose sight of their traditions.
Soon to be school girls and boys. Train hard. Look pretty for the tourists.

Took this at some smaller theme park. Needed a more adult ride considering disney had none.

I must say, falling 20 storeys is not so fun as I initially thought. No suicide by jumping for me.

I like you the way you are, no need to buy all those extras.

Tatami mats!!!

The food I bought. Fish and tempura were heavenly, the dessert was orgasmic but the rest were not my cup of raw food.

Damn nice mango pudding with pumpkin ice cream below.

Delightful indeed!

Mt Fuji is so beautiful with me in front of it.

Go to school my dears. Go!
Weird signs for a toilet eh.

The pic that almost got me mugged by a pimp.
Walk girls, walk.

The Land of the Rising Schoolgirls

Did you know they ban the word shit on the comment box? hoho. Only I can put asteriks on my comment box. What is the world coming to when you can't use the word shit. Haiyo.

Well folks, I'm off to Japan. I'm not paticularly excited as I have some issues that will be hindering my fun.

I'm rather excited with the fact that I'll be able to venture into the country that has invented such a society and culture that is so vibrant and unique.

What's so vibrant and unique? The years of temples, samurai, emperors, kimonos and the like?

No. I was thinking of Japanese schoolgirls dressing like those in anime. Hoho.

And Vishnu wondered why I asked him to help me buy the 4GB memory stick for my camera at SITEX. (And why was the fair so small this year?)

It'll be cold there, but I should think that the sights will keep me warm.

And as I have to leave at an ungodly hour of 3a.m monday morning, I should sleep early today.

Lastly, just some business. My unit trusts have been gradually but surely are about to break even. My losses now are about 6.45% up from a high of 19.85%, with goood appreciation in fundamentals driving the increase. The prices would mean my UTs are not overvalued and hence I foresee breaking even by early Jan 2008.

I guess I will be making my earlier projected gains before the Olympics after all.
